Dan Rubright is a St. Louis based guitarist, composer, singer-songwriter and producer. He co-created, along with Ted Rubright, the original alternative rock band Red Weather in the 90’s. The group performed for several years on the local club circuit. He then recorded a solo album, Avenue X an eclectic CD of new pop-rock and world music that included such artists as drummer, Roger Guth and bassist, Jim Mayer from Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band as well as members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
An accomplished jazz guitarist, Dan has performed many concerts of his own unique jazz works. His most recent collection of jazz writing featured Latin-centric compositions for electric and flamenco guitars with a percussion centered rhythm section. The group was dubbed Dan Rubright’s Suburban Gauchos and the music was premiered in February 2009 at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium.
Dan has not only led his own groups over the years but has collaborated with the region’s top musicians and groups. Dan has performed with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions and for nationally touring artists and productions at the prestigious Fox Theater as well as the Muny Orchestra and Opera Theater St. Louis. As a film composer, he scored several award-winning films including the Emmy award-winning Oh Freedom After While and the 2008 documentary, Stem Cell Divide.
Dan Rubright’s songs feature rich musical textures, soulful depth, bittersweet landscapes and thought-provoking and cleverly crafted lyrics. His pop rock arrangements are multi-layered and guitar-centered. His lyrics come from his own experiences in relationships, in nature, as a parent and often serve as reflections on the spiritual journey and the time we share here on this planet.
He is a sought after teacher and has been an adjunct faculty member of Webster University in St. Louis. Along with his writing, producing, performing and teaching, Dan leads songwriting workshops called “The Song Within You.”
