The Super Bowl is coming up Sunday. My previous blog discussed the inner approach of the Patriots. Maybe they’ll win the big one, maybe not. It’s not important of course. The trophy is really inside in the new paradigm….
Today we will apply the same principal to the creation of music or any creative endeavor.
We must remember that we are competing with ourselves: our own limits, yearnings of greater vision and expressive capacities. We are in a quest of good music with ourselves as the only true audience. We disconnect with the need for other’s approval to validate our acts of creativity. (Some of you are already saying, ” but you have to be aware of the market and art without commerce is just…dreamland, immature…”)
Of course this is true too, but I would say, “stop” we aren’t there yet. That’s another conversation. A good one. But not for today. Today, we breath in only the air of “us”. Let the other voices fall away. Listen to the creative impulse that comes to you then serve it. Swim in it, own it, play with it, work it, build it, throw the clay so to speak. Go have some coffee. Write down or record your stuff. Then forget about it. You will know you have connected when you get a surge of satisfaction that feels like buoyancy as you move through the day.
This process is much more important than we think. Maybe more real than what we all consider “the real world”.
That’s it for today. Do it again tomorrow and …
