Avenue X Release on iTunes, October, 2007

Dan Rubright’s Avenue X will be released on iTunes the last week of October, 2007! For clips, go to iTunes and listen to samples of this album. Avenue X is an eclectic blend of rock, world and jazz music, vocal and instrumental. Top session players in St. Louis took part in the recording, including Jim Mayer and Roger Guth, members of Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band.

Inspired by an autumn trip to Coney Island a number of years ago (the last train stop is Avenue X), the mood of this record is bittersweet, haunting yet full of light. The half-open boardwalk, on a cool Saturday afternoon, was full of emotion from a past full of younger, brighter days. The rust covered, chained up amusement park rides were full of intrigue and unspoken sentiment. The sea was blue glass, the air full of the reverberations of a few singing gulls.

It turned out that at this very same train platform-Avenue X- my grandfather and father passed through during stints in the army. I sensed my grandfather’s presence that day, as he had passed away just recently. The day was full of soul and as I sat on bench overlooking the sea and I wrote the poem (song) Avenue X in a few minutes. It was like I was channeling it-there were no edits later.
Avenue X is the metaphorical place where we all meet-beyond space and time-in our yearnings for connection, meaning and understanding.

Enjoy this recording my friends!
